I have decided to do some short entry’s now and again that look at moments from cinema that I think are either really cool, really well done, or are great examples of skill such as makeup. These will hopefully be nice small packages that you can use to work out if you want to see the film, or, if you have seen the film, re-live some awesome moments from the movies.
So for my first entry, I am looking at one of my all time favorite films, Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This epic Chinese tale of warriors and adventure has some incredible action set pieces such as the beautiful fight in the trees or the or the fight n the tea house, but my favorite is the fight between Yu Shu Lien and Jen Yu. The two heroines get into a dispute after tension through the film and the fight proceeds to show off a variety of different weapons including clubs, spears and hook swords the last of which is really cool to see as they aren’t a weapon I have found to turn up often in movies. all these weapons change the dynamic of the fight and the choreography is beautiful. The fight also helps to show the power of the green destiny but also the relative experience of the two combatants.
All in all this is one of the best fight scenes in any martial arts film or even film for that matter with slick choreography and some elements of humor as well this fight scene is just perfect to me.
